Meet Joe & Myia

SCC Gear, LLC is a business owned and operated by Joe Richardson.  I have been involved with web, graphic and print design work since age thirteen and have kept with it for over twenty years now.  In my past, I have worked with marketing teams, design teams, in B2C print sales, B2B print sales, print manufacturing and a variety of print and/or design-related side gigs in the middle.  My retail years started with Sears at age fifteen and ended fifteen years later in store management.  I am a long time car enthusiast with a strong passion for Mustangs, Broncos and former police vehicles.  I have more project cars than restored cars.  Always having been a Mustang guy, I am attracted to unique cars with history. In 2008, I purchased my police car – an unrestored Texas Highway Patrol 1990 Ford Mustang SSP and quickly became involved in the vintage emergency vehicle community.  I learned the importance of restoring the history, not just the vehicle itself. Today, my focus is primarily on vintage emergency vehicles from my birth state, Massachusetts.  You may find my wife and I at various vintage emergency vehicle or police events across the country.

Meet Myia, the person who puts up with Joe on a daily basis, the person who doesn’t mind having a living room full of business inventory (so far anyway) and the person who keeps an eye on his sanity. She is also a creative person who focuses on wood burning, painting and other art mediums. Whether it be going to a police event with a vintage police car or packaging bulk orders at home, you will rarely see them apart. When you meet one, you’ll most likely meet both!

On December 1, 2019, they officially got hitched.  It is also our goal for 2020 to have a store front.

The Start of SCC Gear, LLC

The roots for this business began in 2011 under the name Show Car Customs with our car-themed digital and print designs, products and services.  As time went on, the business grew to new markets and we now service businesses, churches, schools, museums, government agencies, gift shops and more.  In January of 2020, we officially created SCC Gear, LLC as our new forward vision with the primary goal of making it a full-time business for the very first time!  Since a large portion of our customers are involved in first response, we created the “Gives Back” program where the purchase of products from our 10-7 First Response product line benefit those who preserve first response history (example: police and fire museums).

About The SCC Gear Name, Logo & Brand

A few years after we started Show Car Customs in 2011, there were several other products added to the mix that we referred to as “gear” (another broad term for apparel, headwear, etc).  Also, since gears cause motion, it acts as a nod that SCC is always evolving and always in motion.  This is what led me to design this specific logo.  The logo says “SCC” in it, the “S” being a gear shifter with a knob on top (the shape is consistent to the font used) and the “CC” can be found in the boot.  It was inspired by the classic shifters of early muscle cars.

Business is Personal & Personalization is Our Business!

How We Personalize

Although we offer a variety of services, what we are most known for is our Sublimation and HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) products.  Sublimation is a print process that is known to be one of the highest print qualities available on the market today.  The process starts with a special printer that prints on special transfer paper (similar to how a standard office printer prints on copy paper).  Using temperatures around 400-degrees, the ink is released from the paper and gets absorbed into a substrate.  This creates one of the long-lasting products on the market.  Although sublimation products are found virtually everywhere, very few are aware of the sublimation process.  One example of where it has become particularly popular is high-end athletic apparel.  When you get a screen-printed or a vinyl shirt, they generally don’t last long due to fading and cracking.  A sublimation shirt will not fade, crack or become dull.  The sublimation ink gets infused into the fabric.  10 years from now, it will look the same as it was the day you purchased it.  If you want a long lasting product, sublimation is the method of choice.

About 10-7 First Response… Our Largest Brand

The first question we get is… “What is 10-7?”  A lot of people are familiar with the radio “ten code” 10-4, meaning affirmative or OK.  10-7 means “Out of Service.”  Being that this line of products started by producing products for owners of vintage police cars that are no longer in service, our brand name 10-7 First Response pays tribute to all things First Response.  Even a small portion of each sale benefits the restoration and preservation of out of service police vehicles featured on MSPRestorations.com.  Although the brand has evolved to make several products that might not be considered vintage (as those designs might pay tribute to designs that are currently used), our vintage and vintage-inspired products are still our best selling products.
